An important message
from Ahava Kids Founder
and President,
Raymond Bechard.

At this very moment, there are more slaves in the world than at any other time in history; more than during the Pharos of Egypt, the Roman Empire, or the transatlantic slave trade of the colonial era. Modern day slavery takes many forms. One of most prevalent is the enslavement of children through child trafficking.

Child Trafficking is the second largest and fastest growing crime in the world for organized crime syndicates. It is also the most profitable crime simply because a child can be sold for sex multiple times every day for many years. Along with the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC), young people are also used for forced labor (cocoa, coffee, diamonds, rugs, silk, etc.), illegal activities (begging, selling drugs), child soldiers, forced marriage, illegal adoption, and in the international trade of organ harvesting. Domestically, child trafficking occurs in every community in America. The FBI has determined that 300,000 young people are trafficked within the United States each year and that the average age for females entering prostitution in America is 13. Young victims are usually runaways or otherwise disenfranchised youth who are then recruited in malls, bus stations, shelters and online.

Ahava Kids, a United States, 501(c)3, Not-For-Profit human rights organization, exists to rescue and care for young victims of child trafficking, enslavement and exploitation in the United States and throughout the world. Through direct intervention, Ahava Kids has developed the process of Rescue, Relocation and Rehabilitation. This is the most effective method of removing young people from the various dangers of trafficking while giving them the best chance at survival and a decent life. Using this process, Ahava Kids has assisted in saving over 3,000 young people around the world and in the United States since 2003.

This crime against kids is a special kind of evil and one we must face head-on with determination and courage. Ahava Kids is different because we bring the resources directly to the people who are risking their live for these children every day. These are local people who know the culture and the system. They work in places most of us can't go or just don't want to go. Through them, we can take a stand. With all of us working together, we can finally save these children from this nightmare.

There are only two ways out of modern-day slavery: Rescue or Death. This is a very hard subject to discuss. It’s unpleasant. It’s Unspeakable. Yet, sometimes it’s not only necessary to speak the unspeakable, but to shout it, declare it, as a war cry against those who threaten children all over the world.

In 2008 Ahava Kids will continue to expand its mission through two important projects:

  • Ahava Kids Model Safe-House
An emergency housing program, working in partnership with American law enforcement officials, providing urgently needed safe-houses for at-risk victims of trafficking.
  • Ahava Kids Urgent Care
A program which provides care and shelter for young victims of commercial sexual exploitation in New England and New York. This is a model program for national expansion currently being adopted as a partnership between law enforcement agencies and Ahava Kids.
  • Ahava Kids Rescue Kits. This program provides certain United States law enforcement personnel with duffel bag kits containing necessities (clothing, toiletries, bedding, etc.) which they will give to young victims of commercial sexual exploitation immediately upon their rescue.
  • Investigations in Iraq to obtain information on the status of children at risk there. Ahava Kids is working with United States military services and the United Nations in order to provide assistance, conduct rescue operations and protect war orphans.
